My Favorite Australian City

Melbourne is probably my favorite Australian city (although that requires an obligatory “shame about the weather”). Sydney’s weather and beaches are better, and the Harbour provides a stunning setting, but I find Melbourne more livable. Sydney’s population growth has outpaced Melbourne’s in recent decades, and Melbourne is now Australia’s second largest city with a population of around 4 million. But it has long prided itself on its cultural and culinary depth, of which Melbournites are justly proud. And don’t get them started on sports…
