Prague (Praha) is magical city. The former heart of Bohemia, capital of the Holy Roman Empire, and ground zero for compulsive outbreaks of defenestration, the modern capital of the Czech Republic is one of the continent’s most charming historical cities and one of Europe’s most popular travel destinations.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Prague became the place to be for the young westerners with an adventurous spirit; young American expats flocked there in the 90s. Since then, the city’s Old Town (Stare Mesto), with its cobblestone streets and fairytale towers, has become a tourist mecca, and the 14th century Charles Bridge is swarmed with sightseers day and night. It’s no longer the undiscovered gem or bargain it once was, but a visit to Prague is well worth it.
