Publishing or unpublishing a page on Facebook probably isn’t something you’ll need to do often, but it is something that comes in useful. Maybe you’re drafting a new page or revising an existing one, for example. So you don’t want everyone to see what’s going on behind the scenes as you work on it. And then you’ll need to hit publish to make it available to everyone else.
The process to publish and unpublish a page on Facebook isn’t difficult, but there is one small difference with how to do it in Classic Facebook compared with New Facebook (the new layout rolled out in mid-2020). As with most of Facebook’s rollouts, the new layout is coming out gradually to some users before others. So we have a transitional period when some users have one, and others have another. For now, at least, it’s also possible to switch between them.
So here’s a quick guide on how to publish and unpublish pages in both Classic Facebook and New Facebook.
Publish or Unpublish a Page in New Facebook
Go to your Page (while logged in, of course). If your page is not yet published, you’ll get a bar at the top reminding you of that and including a link to publish it. You can use that as a shortcut to publish the page.
Click on the Page Settings in the bottom left of the screen.
From General, click Page Visibility. There’s an Edit
link at the right, but you can actually just click anywhere on that line.
You’ll find a choice there between published or unpublished. If you’re unpublishing a page that has already been published, you’ll get popups asking you why you’re unpublishing the page and if there’s anything they can do to help to keep it public. These are optional–they don’t determine whether it’ll let you unpublish the page.
Select the appropriate options and click on the Next
and Save Changes
buttons.

Thank you for this page – just what I needed. I have been setting up a new facebook page which will be used to promote concerts etc. I got 3 community spam breach notices and needed to know how to unpublish my page while I try and sort it out. Yours was the only one that was helpful.
