In recent years, Sigma has been putting out some really nice lenses. They’ve divided their offerings into three different ranges. The lenses in the Sports range are aimed at photographers shooting on location with fast-moving action; things like sports and wildlife. The lenses in the Contemporary range put an emphasis on general-purpose versatility. The Art range, of which this lens is part, puts an emphasis on optical quality.detailed review of the Sigma 24-35mm f/2.
I have much more detail in the review, but the short version is that I found the optical quality to be generally excellent and auto focusing to be a bit weak–understandable on a lens in the Art range. The vignetting at wide apertures is pretty heavy, and focusing at infinity at f/2 wasn’t as sharp as it could be. But from around f/4 those issues start to disappear.
The Sigma 24-35mm has a constant maximum aperture of f/2 combined with a relatively wide angle of view ranging from 84.1° at its widest to 63.4° zoomed in. Its configured in 18 elements in 13 groups with 9 rounded diaphragm blades, takes 82mm filters, and has a minimum focusing distance of 11 inches (28 cm).
