Sony RX1R II Sample Images

A collection of photos shot with the Sony RX1R II full-frame compact camera.

Below are some example photos I shot with the new Sony RX1R II. They go along with my detailed review.

The Sony RX1R II is a high-end compact camera. It has a fixed 35mm f/2.0 Carl Zeiss lens and a full-frame CMOS sensor that produces 42.4 MP images that measure 7952 by 5304 pixels.

The basic ISO sensitivity range is from ISO 100 to 25,600. That can also be extended down to ISO 50 and up to ISO 102,400.

Low Light / High ISO

Here are some examples. Again, click on the image to open a full-size version so you can take a closer look at the amount of noise when viewed at 1:1.

SONY DSC-RX1RM2 with 35mm F2.0 | ¹⁄₁₀₀ sec at ƒ / 2.8 and ISO 8000. The excellent high-ISO performance of the sensor means that even shots like this can work handheld.

SONY DSC-RX1RM2 with 35mm F2.0 | ¹⁄₁₀₀ sec at ƒ / 2.8 and ISO 4000. This scene often presents a challenge to camera light meters because it’s mostly dark with some very bright highlights. But it’s handled very well by this camera.

SONY DSC-RX1RM2 with 35mm F2.0 | ¹⁄₂₅ sec at ƒ / 8.0 and ISO 6400. Even at ISO6400 there’s very little image noise.

SONY DSC-RX1RM2 with 35mm F2.0 | ¹⁄₆₀ sec at ƒ / 4.0 and ISO 6400

SONY DSC-RX1RM2 with 35mm F2.0 | ¹⁄₁₀₀ sec at ƒ / 2.8 and ISO 32000

SONY DSC-RX1RM2 with 35mm F2.0 | ¹⁄₁₀₀ sec at ƒ / 2.8 and ISO 25600

SONY DSC-RX1RM2 with 35mm F2.0 | ¹⁄₁₂₅ sec at ƒ / 2.8 and ISO 32000

SONY DSC-RX1RM2 with 35mm F2.0 | ¹⁄₅₀₀ sec at ƒ / 2.8 and ISO 102400. At ISO102400 there is pretty heavy image noise, but in a pinch the image quality is still surprisingly good.

SONY DSC-RX1RM2 with 35mm F2.0 | ¹⁄₃₀ sec at ƒ / 2.8 and ISO 102400. Again, there’s quite a lot of image noise when you push the ISO to the upper limit, but in a pinch it came make the difference in getting a shot or not. This was still handheld, and the image makes it look lighter than it was to my eyes.
