Here’s a collection of sample images I’ve taken with the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM zoom lens.1 It’s a versatile zoom lens designed for Canon EOS R series mirrorless cameras.
Overall, it’s a very versatile lens. From the 24mm wide-angle lens to the 105mm telephoto, there’s a huge range of shooting situations that this is good for. I’ve found it to be highly versatile and very high quality, and it makes for a wonderful pairing with the R5.
Despite the USM in the name, this isn’t a traditional ring-type ultrasonic motor. Canon lists the focus drive as Nano USM, the flatter, quieter type it uses on lenses aimed at video as well as stills. The stabilizer in the lens is rated at 5 stops on its own. On a body with in-body stabilization like the R5, the lens IS and the body IS work together as coordinated IS, and Canon quotes up to 8 stops for that combination, naming this lens as one it applies to.

Here’s a collection of sample images I’ve taken with the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens on a Canon EOS R5 body. While I haven’t been able to get out and about to shoot as much variety as I’d like with it, I’ve nevertheless tried to include a range of different apertures, focal lengths, and scenes. My hope in posting these is that it gives some idea of how it performs in real-world shooting, and it’s designed to go along with my hands-on review posted separately.
These were all shot originally in RAW on a Canon R5. They’ve been lightly processed in Lightroom, but I haven’t applied any of Lightroom’s lens distortion, chromatic aberration, or vignetting fixes, so those aspects are as shot. But the R5 has its own built-in lens correction; these were taken with the default settings, which is what I’m guessing most shooters would use, at least to start.
That matters most for the corners of the 24mm frames shot wide open. Photography Life’s lab tests measured about two stops of vignetting at 24mm and f/4 with no correction applied, clearing up quickly as you stop down or zoom in, and found the uncorrected geometric distortion milder than in comparable midrange zooms. So if the corners of a 24mm f/4 shot below look dark, that’s the lens uncorrected rather than the light.
