I’ve written several posts about the Sony HX99 camera, including a comprehensive hands-on review, some sample photos, some examples of its high-ISO performance, and a detailed breakdown of its impressive zoom.
To go along with those, here’s a small collection of macro images I’ve taken with it. Combined with the massive zoom in a tiny camera, the HX99’s macro capabilities just add to the camera’s impressive versatility.
- ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24-720mm High Magnification Zoom and High Image Quality Lens
- Stunning 4K video with full pixel readout and no pixel binning
I’ve included the shooting information in the caption below each image. There are no special lens attachments or filters used here–these are just with the HX99’s native macro feature.

Things Worth Knowing
The HX99 can focus unusually closely. The macro feature, combined with the small sensor and wide lens, means that it can focus less than 2 inches (5 cm) from the front of the lens.
