GoPro HERO9 Black Sample Photos

Here are some photos I’ve taken with the GoPro HERO9 Black.

Like everyone else, I haven’t been able to get out and about as much as I’d like over the past year. So I haven’t had the chance to shoot as many photos with the HERO9 Black as I’d like.

On top of that, the HERO10 Black is now out. So it might seem like an odd time to post some photos taken with the HERO9 Black. But I’m doing it for two main reasons.

Firstly, it provides a reference point when comparing the photo capabilities of the HERO10 Black. Secondly, there are good deals to be had on the HERO9 Black, and, for a variety of reasons, not everyone wants to buy the latest and greatest model.

I have a more detailed post separately on the photo features of the HERO9 Black. But here’s a short version: The HERO9 Black has a 20MP sensor, which is a big step over the 12MP sensor of its predecessor, the HERO8 Black. It’s photos measure 5568 x 4192 (RAW/GPR) or 5184 x 3888 (JPG). It has RAW available in all shooting modes. And it has a range of photo-related extra features, like rapid burst mode shooting, and three digital fields of view (or lenses, as GoPro now calls them: Wide, Linear, and Narrow).

So here are some photos I’ve taken with the HERO9 Black. These are not the kind of photos you normally see with GoPros, and that’s deliberate. I’ve said for a while now that I think GoPros are underappreciated for shooting that’s not surfing or skydiving or hurtling down a mountain on a mountain bike. For all their quirks, GoPros can make surprisingly good and fun everyday and travel cameras. So with these sample images, that’s where I’m putting the emphasis.
