The HERO9 Black is the first GoPro to shoot 5K video footage. It also has a higher-resolution sensor than its predecessors, shooting 20MP photos (up from 12MP).

The camera body is waterproof without the need for an external housing, and it has a larger battery than the HERO8 Black. The in-camera video stabilization has been upgraded to HyperSmooth 3.0. And it also adds a front-facing color screen that’s available for live view. It’s the only camera in the HERO9 lineup.
