Battery finder: Which battery does your Sigma camera take?

Sigma is best known for lenses, but they have developed a respectable stable of cameras over the years as well.
Their camera line is small enough that knowing which battery to get is refreshingly simple, because one battery model covers most of their recent cameras.
That’s the BP-51. It’s the battery for the fp, fp L, and all four dp Quattro compact cameras.
And moreover, if you own more than one of those bodies, there’s a good chance a single spare covers them both.1

Things worth knowing
The BP-51 covers the modern range
The BP-51 is shared across the fp, fp L, dp0, dp1, dp2, and dp3 Quattro.
The sd Quattro and sd Quattro H use the larger BP-61 with the BC-61 charger, the SD1 Merrill uses the BP-22, the SD14 and SD15 share the BP-21, and the BF, introduced in 2025, uses the BP-81.
Go back further and the packs change again. The DP1, DP2 and DP3 Merrill compacts run on the BP-41 with the BC-41 charger. The first-generation DP compacts — DP1, DP1s, DP1x, DP2, DP2s and DP2x — all share the BP-31 with the BC-31.
The SD9 and SD10 are the odd ones out, and in the best way: they have no proprietary pack at all. Sigma lists the SD9 as taking two CR123A lithium cells, two CR-V3s, or four AA Ni-MH; the SD10 drops the CR123A option and adds four AA nickel-zinc. Every other discontinued Sigma sends you hunting a BP-something on the used market, but these two run on cells you can still buy in any supermarket — which makes them by far the easiest old Sigmas to keep shooting.
USB charging
The fp and fp L can charge in-camera over USB, so you’re not tied to carrying the external charger if you already travel with a USB power bank (and who doesn’t these days?!).
There’s a catch on the fp, though. Sigma’s spec sheet notes that the fp charges its battery internally over USB but can’t be used while it’s charging, so a power bank buys you a top-up between sessions, not continuous running. The fp L is the one that will take USB power with the camera switched on, which is what you want if you’re shooting long video takes off a bank.
The BF works the same way. Sigma’s spec sheet lists its USB-C port as handling charging and power delivery.
