Ricoh batteries
Ricoh has never been among the biggest of the camera makers. They’re very much focused on niche cameras, with their long-running compact GR series, from film to digital, being a poster child.
But they’ve also explored some other interesting niches, from waterproof adventure cams to 360-degree cameras (Theta series).
And while you’d never guess it from the cameras themselves, more than a few of these completely different kinds of cameras actually share the same battery.
That said, you can’t necessarily count on it. Because keeping track of which battery model is right for your camera isn’t as straightforward as it could be. The GR III and the GR IV, for example, look almost identical from the outside, but their batteries aren’t shared: the GR III takes the DB-110, while the GR IV moved to the larger DB-120.
Below you can find which Ricoh camera takes what battery. I’ve included digital and film, and there’s still a handful I’m trying to confirm before I include them.
It’s also good to carry a spare, especially with the digital and small compact ranges. There’s only so much battery you can fit in a pocketable body — the GR III is rated at around 200 shots per charge. So carrying spares is always a good idea so your camera doesn’t die just when you want to keep shooting.

Things worth knowing
The manufacturers do sometimes come out with newer versions of some batteries. And sometimes there’s more than one model that’s compatible. I’ve noted those cases below.
With Ricoh, the battery families themselves are fairly straightforard — a handful of models cover nearly the whole modern range.
The DB-110 is probably the most important in terms of the newer ranges. It powers the GR III and GR IIIx (including the HDF and special editions), the WG-6, the G900 and G900 II, and the Theta X.
What about the other Theta models? The Theta X is the only camera in Ricoh’s 360° line with a user-swappable battery. Every other model — from the original Theta through the m15, S, SC, SC2, V, and Z1 — has a sealed internal battery that charges over USB, so there’s no battery to buy and nothing to cross-reference, which is why they don’t appear in the chart. There’s a nice footnote hiding in Ricoh’s own spec sheets, though: the Z1’s sealed internal cell is listed as a DB-110 — the same battery — it’s just built in rather than swappable.
The GR IV moved to a new, larger battery, the DB-120, rated at 1800mAh and around 250 shots per charge, so GR III spares won’t do you any good if you upgrade to the GR IV.
The waterproof WG bodies — WG-50, WG-60, WG-70, WG-80 and WG-90 — use the older D-LI92 that Ricoh inherited from Pentax.
The GR (2013), GR II, GR Digital III and GR Digital IV run on the DB-65, and the two GR Digitals will also take the older DB-60. The original GR Digital and GR Digital II go back further: the DB-60, or two AAA cells.
Chargers
The chargers are where it gets fiddly.
The GR III charges its DB-110 inside the camera over USB-C, which is handy on the road because a power bank will do the job while you’re on the go, but it also means the camera is out of action while it charges.
To charge a spare outside the camera, you need a separate charger that’s not included: Ricoh’s is the BJ-11, which itself runs off USB-C. The DB-120 has its own charger, the BJ-12.

Third-party batteries for Ricoh cameras
I’m focusing here on original Ricoh-branded batteries because those are the ones that Ricoh guarantees to work in their cameras.
But there’s also a whole universe of aftermarket batteries out there. They’re often significantly cheaper than the OEM versions. Sometimes they’re the only option that’s available in stock.
I’ve used many aftermarket batteries over the years in many different cameras and have found many of them to work well. I’ve also come across some that don’t. So I can’t give a blanket statement that you should or should not get third-party batteries. Because the reality is that some are better than others.
In nearly all cases, the third-party batteries are listed on retailers’ sites using the original model numbers. So doing a search for those should surface any third-party alternatives that are available.
I’m not recommending one way or the other on whether to buy them. But if you do decide to buy them, it’s worth doing so knowing that it does come with more risk than buying the Ricoh-branded versions.
