Here are some sample images I’ve taken with the Sony E 15mm f/1.4 G lens on a Sony a6700. It’s a fast prime designed for Sony’s cropped-sensor APS-C cameras in the Alpha range.

Here are some sample images I’ve taken with the Sony E 15mm f/1.4 G lens. It’s a fast prime designed for Sony’s cropped-sensor APS-C cameras in the Alpha range.

I’ve been using this lens on the Sony a6700. And I’ve also been using it alongside a Sigma 16mm Æ’/1.4, which is a direct competitor. (I’ll post a direct, detailed comparison of the lenses separately.)

I’m finishing up my hands-on review, but I wanted to share here a larger selection of images than I can include in the main review.

What To Know About These Sample Images

These were shot on a Sony a6700 in RAW and lightly processed in Lightroom Classic.

I haven’t applied extra optical corrections to these in post, but that’s not to say these are unadulterated optical versions. Because my objective here is to test typical real-world use rather than do scientific lab tests, I’ve left the default settings on.

In this case, the default settings applied for the combination of the Sony a6700 and this lens include automatic corrections for issues like barrel distortion, chromatic aberration, and lens vignetting. When you open the RAW files in Lightroom, the lens profile is automatically applied, and if you’re shooting JPG, the fixes are automatically applied in-camera to those JPGs. It’s possible to turn the profile off, but I’ve left it as is here. So what you’re seeing here are versions that include the default corrections.

I’ve tried to include a mix of different types of scenes. And you’ll notice that many of these are shot with larger apertures, because that’s the range I’m most interested in with a fast lens like this.

This was part of a pair I shot alongside the Sigma 16mm Æ’/1.4 to compare their barrel distortion. There’s a very slight curve in some of the horizontal lines here, but it’s very little, but it’s worth noting that much of this is due to the automatic lens profile; the unadulterated image has pretty heavy barrel distortion, something I’ll show in more detail in my detailed review (posted separately).
